Ayano Kamimura

cello

Ayano Kamimura has won prizes in many competitions in Japan and overseas since she was a young child. She has received accolades for her performances with orchestras and in chamber music concerts inside and outside Japan. In addition to modern cello performance, she is actively engaged in historical performance utilizing period instruments. She is one of the rare cellists expanding the scope of her activities as a musician at the forefront of both modern and historical performance.

A recipient of grants from the Meiji Yasuda Cultural Foundation, Agency for Cultural Affairs, and Rohm Music Foundation, Kamimura studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and the Musik Akademie Basel.

In recent years she has been performing each year at music festivals in various locations, including festivals in Kirishima, Miyazaki, Takefu, and Tsurui.

Ayano Kamimura studied modern cello with Hakuro Mori, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Arto Noras, and Ivan Monighetti, and period cello with Christophe Coin in the early music department in Basel.

Kamimura won the 2022 Hotel Okura Music Award and the 2024 Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award. She is active as a member of Bach Collegium Japan. She also serves as a special adviser in the Conducting Department of Tokyo College of Music, and appears as host on the podcast “Ayano Kamimura’s A of Radio,” streamed on Spotify on the 15th and last day of each month.
